ISSUU:
This is a digital publishing
platform where people upload files that are turned into books or magazines.
The first thing you need to know
is that you are going to work with another tool befo
re uploading your work to ISSUU
For this activity you're going to make a Power Point
Presentation first.
Before starting with the
activities, check out this tutorial:
Activity#1 -
My Heroes (Intermediate level - Age: 12~15 years old)
1) Think of three people
you consider your heroes. They could be artists, sports people, politicians,
writers, historical icons or members or your family.
2) Write a brief profile
including the following information: (Write around 100 words)
ü
Where
is he/she from?
ü
When
was she/he born?
ü
What
did/does she/he do?
ü
(When
did she/he die?)
3) Write another short
text for each chosen person explaining why you consider them your hero. Include information about
his/her good deeds and how his/her personality impacted on you. (Write around 100 words)
4) Look for at least one
picture of him/her and other images that you could associate with your heroes'
lives.
5) Now you need to put
everything together: create a Power Point Presentation.
6) Look for an
appropriate background/template.
7) Create a cover:
"My Heroes". Give it a nice format and include images.
8) In the second slide
you may include an INDEX.
9) Start adding
information about one of your heroes. You should include one big picture of
him/her on the first slide and copy the text on another slide. If the text is
too long, you should split it into two or more slides.
(Take into account that
each Power Point slide will represent a page on your ISSUU publication)
10) Once you have
finished it you are ready to upload it on ISSUU. First access ISSUU and
create an account.
11) Upload your power
point presentation.
One step further...
12) Once you have
uploaded the files and the ISSUU is published you can edit it by adding buttons
that, for example, lead from one page of the document to another. You can
profit from it and add “Go to page…” buttons in the Index so that the reader
can go directly to the section mentioned on the list.
(In the sample given at the bottom of this entry, you
can see the buttons to “go to page X” on the Index)
13) Now you can add more
links to expand information on your heroes. So, look for one video or website
that you think would be interesting to incorporate to the information about
your heroes. Then create on the appropriate section a link to those videos or
websites.
(In the sample I added links to a poem, to a short story and to a video)
Alternative activities:
Work on the activity #1 but under different
rubrics:
"My favourite short stories"
"Places I Want to visit"
"Films I would recommend"
Here there's a sample of the activity:
