Professor Gardfield Comic Lab - tutorial

Professor Gardfield Comic Lab

In this section, Professor Garfield helps you become a Comic Mastermind. You can create, design and write your own comic strip! The website is free and you can work logged in or not. But it’s advisable you log in so that you can save your work after you have finished it.

To log in is very easy,  you just click on the button log-in and insert a nickname. Now you’re ready to start working on your comic strip!
(Note: make sure you have a clear idea of your comic strip. You may also want to have a copy of the scripts in a word document)

You’re going to be given three choices: to begin with the COMIC CREATOR, to watch tutorial VIDEOS, or to download some LESSONS and ideas. You may browse through the videos and the lessons but if you feel you’re ready to start and explore this comic lab, just click on COMIC CREATOR!

You start with an empty template. In order to edit the panels you have to click on “Edit this panel”

You should start by choosing the background of your panel. Press the “Background” button. When a new window opens, browse through the different options and once you’ve found a suitable one, click on “DONE”

Then you can start adding your characters and props. You can drag them and move them wherever you want, you can also enlarge them.

Don’t forget to add the speech bubbles!

Once you have finished with the first panel, click on “DONE” and repeat the procedure on the rest of the panels. You can create as many panels as you wish, but remember that comic strips are generally not very long.
You have the possibility to customize your own character if you want just by clicking on the tab on the top of the page. “Expand Character Builder”.

You can change your character’s head, eyes, mouth, ears, etc.

Once you have finished your comic strip, you can print it or save it as a JPEG.

Now you have your comic strip available to use it whenever and wherever you want!

Now, why not try this activity?
