ProfessorGarfield Comics Lab:
To the teacher: this tool is a funny way to create your own comic strip. Most of the characters are from Gardfield. You can get your students work with this tool in different ways...
Before starting this activity, take a look at the tutorial.
Activity #1 (Beginners - age: 9~10 years old)
1) Choose a short story you have read and liked. Example: "The Lion and the Mouse" (Fable)
2) You're going to adapt the story into a comic strip.
3) In a separate sheet of paper, draft how many panels you need to narrate the story. Think of short dialogues to include in each panel and write them down. Hand in this first draft so that your teacher can correct it and give you a feedback. (Use around 6 or 8 panels)
4) Once you have received your draft corrected, access ProfessorGarfield Comics Lab and log in with a nickname.
5) Choose the characters from the Comics Lab that could best represent the characters of the story. You may change some of them if you can't find an appropriate character. Example: Use Garfield instead of a Lion.
6) Start editing the first panel. Choose an appropriate background and include your characters. Add the bubbles and write the lines.
7) Work on all your panels. Once you have finished it, dowload your comic strip and save it in your computer.
Example:the following comic strip is a brief adaptation of the fable “The Lion and the Mouse”
6) Dowload your
comic strip, print it out and act it out and share with your classmates!
